What is TEX in threads and yarns?

Share

TEX is a unit of measurement used to describe the thickness of textile threads or yarns. It represents the weight of one thousand meters of thread or yarn. For example, if a yarn has a specification of TEX 50, this means that one kilogram of that yarn will have a length of 50,000 meters. The higher the TEX, the thicker the yarn. A yarn with TEX 50 is thicker than a yarn with TEX 24, for example.

In practice, it is used to compare thickness. If two yarns have the same TEX and composition, then they have the same weight and can be substituted for each other.
